Budget broadband ISP TalkTalk has today followed Virgin Media by announcing that Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service will also be coming to their YouView (IPTV) powered Pay TV platform. The Prime Video app is being rolled out on set-top-boxes over the course of this month.

Newspaper reports have claimed that ISP BT are in early discussions with Apple over what could represent a significant shift in their Pay TV strategy within the United Kingdom, which might result in their EE mobile brand bundling Apple’s set-top-boxes with their home broadband and phone packages.

Broadband ISP BT has announced that they’ve become the first major UK pay TV provider to offer access via their YouView (IPTV) powered set-top-box to Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service, which will show up as an app to customers of the service. Broadband customers who signed-up last year to trial TalkTalk’s new YouView (IPTV) based Multi-Room TV service are finally starting to receive their kit. The ISP is aiming to launch the service commercially during early 2018 (most likely around late March or April).

The BT Group has released their latest quarterly report (Q1 2017 calendar), which saw their retail broadband base reach a total of 9,276,000 subscribers (up by 29K vs 83K in Q4 2016) and Openreach has begun a consultation on the “potential benefits and costs of a large-scale FTTP deployment.“

New customers looking to take TalkTalk’s entry-level ‘up to’ 17Mbps unlimited “Fast Broadband” and phone bundle may wish to know that the price has dropped to £20 per month for the first 12 month contract term (£25.50 thereafter). A TV (YouView) box can also be added for an extra £25 (one-off).

BT has announced that broadband TV customers who are still using their old ‘Vision’ set-top-box (IPTV) will have to adopt the newer YouView based kit because the content for their older hardware is slowly being removed, with all extra channels and VOD set to be gone by the end of 2017.
