"if you want to save money, and aren't too worried about support or getting the best service quality, then consider some of these"

gold star
General Commendations (for the budget conscious)

The ISPs we’ve listed on previous pages are of our own personal choice, though there are many other providers worth considering too. Readers are urged to check out our ‘Top 10 Reader Reviewed ISPs’ page and the ‘Reader ISP Reviews’ section in general for further options. However if you want to save money, and aren't too worried about support or getting the best service quality, then consider some of these as well:

PlusNet (Experiences vary, but cheap)

Eclipse Internet (Improving)

Tesco (Undecided about Tesco but had some good feedback)

XILO (Not established long enough to make it into the main list, but recommended)

Aquiss (Well rated by most readers)

The pricing and recommendations of this article are only valid for the date published. ISP quality and performance can change like the wind; though we attempted to pick providers that have shown a reasonably consistent performance and reliability over the past 12 months. Be aware that there is no such thing as perfection and experiences can differ, especially with broadband being a shared “best efforts” service.

Those newer to broadband should check out our ‘Choosing an ADSL ISP’ guide (works for other types of broadband too), which covers some of the common pitfalls and hidden nasty’s. We also have a ‘Broadband ADSL Connection Tips’ guide to help when diagnosing ADSL / ADSL2+ related connectivity and performance problems with your service (not valid for Virgin Media’s cable platform).
