UPD 3 Mobile UK Launch Cheaper Mobile Broadband Roaming Package

Mobile operator Three UK has today become the latest to launch a new Euro Internet Pass service, which reflects Europe’s new roaming regulation (details) by making it cheaper to use your mobile phone and Mobile Broadband connection when roaming abroad within the EU.

The Euro Internet Pass, which is available to all of the operators Pay Monthly Phone customers, costs £5 Per Day and claims to allows users to “enjoy the best of the internet on their smartphones while in the EU, without the fear of running up a massive bill.” Meanwhile Pay-as-you-go customers still have to pay £1.28 per MB for EU roaming.

Thomas Malleschitz, Marketing Director at Three, said:

“We love the mobile internet at Three and we want our customers to enjoy it on holiday as much as they do at home. The Euro Internet Pass gives our customers the freedom to use the internet in the EU without having to think about how many megabytes or gigabytes they are using or where the nearest Wi-Fi hotspot is.

We’ve been campaigning for lower data roaming rates and welcome the new regulation from Europe. These changes promote competition and allow us to offer our customers a better deal so they no longer have to worry about running up a massive bill when using the internet.”

The new service isn’t promoted as unlimited, although none of the press details mention much about restrictions beyond simply saying that you can “go wild online” until midnight that day (UK time). However Three UK do state that the Euro Internet Pass is designed for browsing “so streaming may not be as good as it is on our UK network” (i.e. limited to 128Kbps) and tethering is not included.
