Vodafone UK Cuts 20% off their FTTC Unlimited Fibre Broadband Prices

New customers of Vodafone’s unlimited ‘up to 38Mbps and ‘up to’ 76Mbps capable FTTC (VDSL2) based “fibre broadband” packages can now benefit from a 20% discount on the monthly rental, which will apply for the first 18 months of service. As a result the prices now start from £20 per month.

The new deal will be available to order until 9th October 2017. Both of the related packages also include a wireless router, unlimited usage, phone line rental and an 18 month contract term. In addition, neither of the packages requires you to pay a one-off setup fee for activation, although if you happen to need a brand new Openreach line installed then that may carry and £60 one-off installation cost.

The price point that Vodafone has adopted for their 38Mbps tier makes this just about the cheapest “superfast broadband” package on Openreach’s FTTC network. Oddly it also means that their slower ‘up to’ 17Mbps ADSL+ package is now more expensive than fibre at £25 per month + a setup fee of £24 for existing customers or £49 for new customers.

Mind you it’s not unusual for ISPs to adopt such aggressive pricing when trying to grow their subscriber base, although such tactics can sometimes result in a loss of service quality, unless carefully subsidised to avoid such an outcome (Origin Broadband has experienced this and they are also one of the cheapest). Historically providers tend to raise their prices further down the road, once they’ve grown.
