UK ISP EE Takes Business Broadband Portal Offline Until July 2018

Customers of EE’s business broadband packages will have to go back to the old fashioned analogue way of paper record keeping after the ISP decided to take their online portal for the service offline until July 2018, which they claim is necessary in order to make unspecified “technical improvements.”

Ordinarily the standard practice would be to maintain the existing service until such time as you’re ready to introduce the new one, ideally in a smooth and ordered fashion, but apparently that’s not how EE see things. According to The Register, the operator has at least promised to send customers their monthly bills “free of charge” (we assume they mean paper bills, which in today’s connected society often carries an extra cost).

EE’s Statement

“We’re working hard to make sure that you still get the best possible service during this period, but we are sorry for any inconvenience it causes. The rest of your broadband service will continue to work as normal, and you’ll still be able to manage your account by contacting us directly.”

Sadly it’s unclear why EE felt the need to take the member portal offline, which leaves plenty of room for customers to speculate over the cause (security?).
