Fixed wireless access ISP Lothian Broadband, which covers remote rural parts of East Lothian and Mid Lothian in Scotland with speeds of up to 35Mbps, has appointed a new Financial Director – Jennifer Nicoll – and moved into a bigger office. All of this comes ahead of a possible network expansion.
Previously the provider was based out of The Tech Shed (350 sq. ft.) at the Humbie Hub, although they’ve now outgrown that office space and have instead shifted into new premises (The Poldrate) in Haddington this month.
At the same time they’ve also appointed Jennifer Nicoll, a Chartered Accountant by background, to act as both their new Financial Director and to help oversee the company’s future evolution.

Nic McCormick, MD of Lothian Broadband, said:
“The Tech Shed at the Humbie Hub has been a happy home for us and we will be very sad to leave – the local support we have received has been incredible. Humbie has been a great space to start our business from– but the time is right and we are excited to be moving into our new office at The Poldrate in Haddington.
We are delighted to welcome Jennifer to the team and she joins us at and exciting time in our evolution. Bringing somebody with Jennifer’s expertise into the team is a real boost for us all as we move into the next stages of our business.
The Poldrate is a great workspace, offering us the space we need to grow; whilst Haddington is at the heart of our broadband network. It is the perfect match for us.”
At this point we still don’t know precisely what the ISP has instore for the future, although they have previously hinted at a plan that could see them both expanding their wireless service and also building a new “ultrafast” Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network (here).
There were rumours they were looking to work together with BorderLink, another wireless ISP a bit further south, a partnership which would be able to cover from North Northumberland right up to the outskirts of Edinburgh.
We wouldn’t rule anything out in the future but we have no plans to partner at the moment. Our current focus is on ensuring our continued growth and we are delighted to welcome Jennifer Nicoll to the team to support that growth.
Best of luck, it’s great to see broadband investment in an area that has been historically underserved.
