ISP County Broadband List 14 Norfolk Villages for FTTH Upgrade
Rural UK ISP County Broadband, which fuelled by £46m from Aviva is working to roll-out a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across the rural East of England, has named the 14 villages that have signed-up to be the first in line to receive a service over their new network.
The provider has already begun their demand-led (i.e. requires interest from 30% of premises in each community) roll-out around a few rural parts of Essex and south west Norfolk. On top of that they’re targeting a number of poorly served communities in South Cambridgeshire (here). Assuming all goes to plan then their full fibre network could extend to cover 20,000 premises by the end of 2020.
Today the operator has announced 14 villages across South Norfolk that have successfully signed-up to join their new “Hyperfast” full-fibre broadband network, with a further 14 villages in the county on the cusp of securing a 1000Mbps connection (i.e. they need to show a bit more demand first). County Broadband also has plans to start engaging with a further 60 villages across the East Anglia region by the end of 2020.

The network build in the first 14 villages is due to begin “later this year” and will be available to all premises that pre-order a service. County Broadband will be providing further information to residents and businesses in the villages including project updates, local village hall meetings and Q&A sessions.

As much as I’d love to have Gigabit, I won’t be paying £80 a month for the priviledge.
Complete rip off if you ask me. Especially when other ISP’s are charging around £50 a month or less.
However I’d happily pay £55 Per Month which is what they are charging for 600 MegaBit.
Thing is Scott, are any of those other providers planning or willing to put up the cash to Fibre your area. (this soon)
It’s all very well for massive companies to take a longer term view on payback of investment by baiting the hook with lower pricing, they can afford to and can also raise funds easier for even more expansion, but do people want to wait 5 years till they’re considered worthy.
The UK market in a nutshell.
I hope it all works out, for them and their customers. I’ve no idea if any of these areas are even on the big Guns radar , but I hope that where Alts take the plunge and go places others wont , that they dont have the rug pulled out from under them by Overbuild.
I know its a free market and open to competition, But when some are prepared to maybe push the envelope a bit, I do think that so long as pricing is reasonable and service is functional they really should get the payback that they deserve and not be ‘proof of concept’ for someone else to come take a slice of in the name of customer choice and free market competition.

I come from Cromer in Norfolk and all my life I’ve had terrible internet speeds games take ages to download videos take ages to upload It’s never ending. Can’t get anything done it’s absolutely ridiculous not only that but we’re in 2020 and still no FTTP. I have 3 kids myself and partner and lots of devices this day and age you can’t run 25 devices on a 30mb connection I hope this gets sorted soon
