AJ Technology (Kloud9) Set to Expand UK FTTP Broadband Rollout UPDATE

A little known company called AJ Technology, which runs UK ISP Kloud9, has revealed that they intend to expand their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in Greater Manchester and bring it to more homes and businesses across “predominantly rural and urban areas in Northern England.”

As part of that plan the operator has already put in applications to secure Code Powers from Ofcom (here), which is something that such companies often do in order to help speed-up the deployment of new fibre optic networks and cut costs, not least by reducing the number of licenses needed for street works. It can also help facilitate access to run fibre through Openreach’s existing ducts and poles (PIA).

Kloud9 is currently somewhat of a niche provider which, so far as we can tell, tends to build bespoke FTTP networks that are used to serve large high rise residential buildings (MDUs). For example, one of their sites includes The Crescent building on Hulme Street in the Salford area of Greater Manchester. A handful of similar sites also exist.

Interestingly, we noted that one of Kloud9’s pages made reference to an existing full fibre builder, albeit with a small spelling mistake on ‘services’: “Kloud9 Serives are Powered by Internetty Ltd.” Readers may recall that InternetTY is an alternative full fibre ISP that has been busy rolling out across semi-rural parts of North Lincolnshire and Staffordshire (example). But we couldn’t see any other obvious connections in the company details.

As if to further confuse matters, one of Kloud9’s other pages also included this in the footer – “AJ Technology Limited T/A Kloud9 – Reg 12703579,” except the company number 12703579 actually leads to Clear Fibre, which is a part of the Telcom Group in Manchester. Now we’re really confused. Kloud9 doesn’t seem to know who its parent is.

UPDATE 2:18pm

ClearFibre has informed us that they have nothing to do with AJ Technology / Kloud9.

UPDATE 27th Sept 2021

The Kloud9 website has now corrected both footers on their website to reference the correct parent: “AJ Technology Limited T/A Kloud9 – Reg 6027746.”
