Pure Broadband Becomes First Live CityFibre ISP in Sheffield

Hull-based UK ISP Pure Broadband, which serves consumers covered by new full fibre networks from KCOM, CityFibre and OFNL, has announced that they’ve just become the first internet provider to make services available via CityFibre’s new network in the South Yorkshire (England) city of Sheffield.

CityFibre started their £115 million rollout of a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across Sheffield a year ago, which initially focused upon the Darnall and Wybourn areas. The first parts of this deployment were recently completed (here), but until now there were no local ISPs able to offer a service to consumers via the new platform.

The good news is that Pure Broadband are now claiming to be the first ISP to go live on CF’s network in the city, although they haven’t confirmed precisely which areas can currently order it. The move is perhaps not a huge surprise because Pure has already launched on CF’s network in the neighbouring towns of Rotherham and Doncaster.

“It was great to meet these customers face-to-face and it quickly became apparent that much of Sheffield has been forgotten about when it comes to Full Fibre.

I spoke to one resident in the area who was eager to sign up. He said he isn’t able to watch Netflix whilst his wife is working from home as she loses connection. Some residents have been receiving download speeds of as little as 6Mbps yet still paying £36 a month for this service. As Pure Broadband and CityFibre enter Sheffield with Full Fibre it’s great to be able to offer a real solution to the city’s broadband problems.”

Customers typically pay from £28 per month for a symmetric speed 75Mbps package, which rises to £45 for their top 900Mbps tier on a 24-month minimum contract term. Pure has previously said that their network will also soon be made available to homes in parts of Barnsley, Bradford, Halifax, Batley, Dewsbury, Leeds and Huddersfield (here).

We should point out that Sheffield is home to several other gigabit-capable broadband networks from rivals at Virgin Media, Openreach, Pine Media and Hyperoptic.
