The specialist broadband provider for the UK education market, Talk Straight (aka – Schools Broadband), has today announced that they’ve been chosen to deliver “high‑capacity Internet circuits” to Bristol City Council (BCC) in England – part of a new contract valued at up to £2.9 million.

The new contract aims to help connect 85 schools and around 100 council offices (i.e. public sector sites) across the city to a faster and more resilient fibre optic network, which will also support BCC’s ambitions to transition to a faster software‑defined wide area network (SD‑WAN) and take advantage of modern cloud‑based applications.

The new network capability is expected to help underpin the city’s delivery of critical digital services and will thus “directly benefit residents across the city“. But precise details on how long the roll-out will take and how fast the new network can go were not mentioned.

David Tindall, Founder and CEO of Talk Straight, said:

“Our partnerships with multiple network providers give our customers genuine choice. That approach delivers faster speeds, increased resilience and a highly competitive price point, without the limitations of being tied to a single network provider.

We are extremely proud to have been selected to deliver such an important network for Bristol City Council, one that will ultimately benefit the people of Bristol. This contract will also create new jobs, supporting both the local economy in Bristol and our wider team in West Yorkshire.”

The company currently says they’re the largest provider of internet connectivity to education in England, serving more than 3,200+ schools and academies.
