Internet provider PlusNet has officially taken the beta tag off its new RoundCube based webmail (email that you access via your website browser) platform this week as they begin to phase out the older SquirrelMail service.
Last year PlusNet said that its new solution would offer “relatively basic functionality compared to some other Webmail solutions“, though it apparently benefits from a cleaner interface that “works well and does all that we (and hopefully you’ll) need it to“. A few of the new and “improved” features are as follows.
RoundCube Feature Highlights
– Rich email composition
– Inline image display
– Right-click context menus
– ‘Drag and drop’ support
– Spam training
Apparently the old Webmail platform will be left to run in parallel with the new service “for a few months” but will eventually be decommissioned. So far there doesn’t appear to be too many problems to report, although in some cases the address book entries from PlusNet’s old platform haven’t been automatically carried across.
