Mobile operator and ISP O2 UK (Telefonica) has signed a new deal with Costa, the UK’s largest coffee shop chain, that will see its free wireless internet (wifi) services being rolled out for use by the groups 14 million monthly customers.
Costa is known to operate 1,300 coffee shops around the country, which means that the rollout of O2’s service will run through most of 2012. As you’d expect the first shops to get the service will go live in London this month and should complete in time for this summer’s festivities.
Kevin Hydes, Marketing Director for Costa UK, said:
“As people spend around half an hour in our stores, we are delighted to be partnering with O2 and providing our customers with 30minutes of free WiFi. Our Coffee Club members will be rewarded with unlimited access to further enhance their coffee shop experience.”
Half an hour of free surfing might not seem like much to some but then most people rarely spend much longer in a coffee shop.
