As expected ISP Metronet UK has expanded the coverage of its “ultrafast” hybrid fibre optic (Dark Fibre) and carrier grade wireless broadband network to reach businesses in the city of Chester (North West England).
The service, which has already signed up its first customers in the area (e.g. Chester Racecourse), is typically aimed towards businesses and tends to focus on areas where there is high demand for a better service due to the existence of poor fixed line infrastructure.

Lee Lawrence, Metronet’s Operations Director, said:
“We know that there are areas of Cheshire that suffer from really poor connectivity. The ‘Connecting Cheshire’ project claims that across Cheshire, broadband services are 5% below the national average and seeks to deliver superfast services to Cheshire by 2016. At Metronet (UK), we believe that this isn’t ambitious enough.
With our unique hybrid approach to connectivity our customers can be guaranteed that their business Internet will be ultrafast, not just merely superfast and what’s more, we can deliver in a few weeks, not a few years.”
The expansion comes only two weeks after Metronet UK expanded its hybrid network to reach areas of Widnes, Runcorn and Speke in Liverpool (Merseyside, England). Further expansion into Leeds, Liverpool, Birmingham and Crewe is also on the cards for 2013.
The provider claims that it can deliver “ultrafast broadband” within 5 working days of order.
