Oxfordshire UK Publish Map to BT and BDUK Superfast Broadband Rollout

Friday, August 9th, 2013 (10:50 am) - Score 1,883

The state aid supported £25 million Better Broadband for Oxfordshire programme, which was signed last week (here) and aims to bring superfast internet access (25Mbps+) to 90% of Oxfordshire by the end of 2015, has published a map of the expected rollout locations.

BTOpenreach has already started surveying locations around the county and the actual roll-out, which will help more than 64,000 homes and businesses to receive faster connectivity, is expected to commence in January 2014.

The map itself (higher res PDF version), which was first spotted by the Cotswolds Broadband project and Thinkbroadband, shows white areas for speeds of 2Mbps and up to 24Mbps. Elsewhere dark grey areas signify the locations that BT’s commercial FTTC/P rollout will reach by spring 2014 and the blue areas represents the £25m scheme’s expected coverage.

This was not hard. If the six months was also used to estimate the actual marginal cost some more of these holes could be filled in.

Oxfordshire should also approach 02 (4G coverage obligation holder) and request their 4G coverage estimate for 2017.

The map is not wholly accurate… it doesn’t show Gigaclear’s Beckley, Elsfield, etc… project as part of the commercial roll-out, but does include the project in Appleton/Eaton and surrounds as a commercial rollout.

Perhaps Gigaclear didn’t include these areas in its response to the Open Market Review?
