Leicestershire UK Adds Improved Superfast Broadband Coverage Map

Monday, September 22nd, 2014 (9:36 am) - Score 473

The Superfast Leicestershire project in central England, which aims to make BT’s “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) network available to 96% of local homes and businesses by the end of March 2016 (i.e. an extra 62,000 premises), has uploaded a more detailed and interactive coverage map of the planned deployment.

The new map, which can be viewed here, has the functionality to search by postcode and allows visitors to zoom in and out and click individual coloured sectors for more info.. “Whilst the interactive map provides more detailed information than our previous map it is still high-level only. Coverage by suppliers does not fully align to full postcode and it is, therefore, not accurate to premise or postcode level,” said a brief statement from the project.

Apparently the map will be updated every 6-8 weeks as new areas go live. It’s still not as good as some, but the improvement is welcome.

NOTE: The map pictured top-left in this article is an older illustration.

Very nice improvement, shame they couldn’t have done this a year to 18 months ago when we all needed it.

Especially as BT info tells me by December 2014 and this tells me 2016 (which I already knew)

Sucks to be in the 2016 area. The map is pretty good, though.

Yeah although I don’t get it as I’ve driven past the main cabinet which has been upgraded to Fibre yet they are only enabling a small area of Thornton in 2014 and the rest of the area that is served off that cabinet by 2016…. anyone know why ?
