EE UK Bids Farewell to Free 2-for-1 Pizzas and Cinema Tickets, Nooo..

Friday, Dec 12th, 2014 (7:42 am) - Score 1,191

The shocking news has broken. Remember when customers of EE’s service use to benefit from free 2-for-1 Pizzas (or dough balls) and Cinema tickets? Actually they still do, but it’s all coming to an end from 25th February 2015. Natch. At least something else is coming to replace it.

Since time was time EE, including under its former brand of Orange UK, has offered mobile customers a 2-for-1 deal on Pizzas and Cinema tickets every Wednesday (Orange Wednesdays). The promotion was so familiar to consumers that it arguably became one of the most iconic mobile benefits throughout the industry.

Lately the promotion has even been expanded to their home broadband bundles, but sadly it’s all coming to an end and as a result there will probably be a fair few unhappy customers knocking about (especially if you just subscribed).

EEs Statement

You may have read that the Orange Wednesday offer will be discontinued from late February.

After 10 great years our brand has changed and our customers’ viewing habits have also evolved so it’s time to move on. That’s why the final credits will roll for Orange Wednesdays at the end of February 2015. We’re working on new customer rewards and we’ll provide more detail soon.

At the time of writing some of EE’s customers appear to be in a state of shock, bewildered as they are by the knowledge that such a primary promotion, one that even encouraged a fair few consumers to switch operators, is now coming to an end.

Apparently EE’s offer (heck, after 10 years it was practically a ‘service’) is to be replaced by some sort of new “entertainment deal“, possibly involving their new EE TV service, although no further details have been revealed and we suspect that it will never be able to match the gravity of Orange Wednesdays.

Now, if anybody needs us, for the next 10 minutes or so, we’ll be over there in the corner crying over spilt milk.
