The aptly named ISP Satellite Internet, which makes use of the SES (ASTRA) platform to deliver ‘up to’ 20Mbps Satellite broadband services across the United Kingdom and Europe, has announced that customers on selected packages will be able to save £229 thanks to their offer of free equipment.
Usually the high cost of hardware, when combined with the usual activation and installation charges, can become one of the biggest barriers to adopting a Satellite connection. But new customers who sign-up for packages with 20GB or more data allowance, on a minimum contract of 12 months, will now get the hardware bits for free.
New users who would rather have a 30-day subscription can also take advantage of reduced equipment costs of £40 on packages with a data allowance of 20GB or more. Mind you in both cases you’d probably still need to pay the activation fee (£49.95) and a domestic install fee from £149 (unless you’re comfortable doing it DIY, which is a tricky job).
Mike Locke, MD of Satellite Internet, said:
“Across the UK, even in today’s digital age, numerous people still don’t have reliable, high-speed Internet service, leaving them unable to access vital online services. For these people, satellite broadband provides a consistent and fast connection. We are pleased to be able to make this even more accessible with our free equipment offer.”
Satellite services are typically best for helping to connect remote rural communities, with prices for the above service starting at £22.95 per month for a usage allowance of just 10GB or £34.95 if you want 20GB.
However we note that there are a few T&C caveats to the new offer. For example, at present the kit you receive will only be enough to deliver a service for those in England, Wales and most of Northern Ireland, but much of Scotland is NOT covered.
Furthermore only one promotional equipment set can be taken per new account and the hardware must be connected to one of the ISPs accounts within one month of purchase or the full, unsubsidised, price of £450 applies. Hard luck if there’s a problem that delays your activation, such as being on holiday at the time or bad weather perhaps.
