Rochdale-based ISP Zen Internet has quietly made a rather significant change to their standard (17Mbps ADSL) home broadband packages by replacing the top capped usage allowance option with a more affordable alternative that includes unlimited use, which can be taken either standalone or as part of a phone bundle.
Previously if you wanted standard home broadband from Zen then the two key packages were as follows: £18.37 per month for a 50GB usage allowance or £25.52 if you want 200GB. But all that has now changed and instead customers will be given the following options, both of which include a short 1 month contract term, UK-based support and a Static IP address.
Zen Broadband (20GB Usage)
PRICE Standalone: £15.40/month
PRICE Bundled: £26.99/month (includes Line Rental)Zen Unlimited Broadband
PRICE Standalone: £21.40/month
PRICE Bundled: £32.99/month (includes Line Rental)
It’s worth pointing out that Zen Internet’s standard Line Rental above is normally £16.99 per month (cheaper standard call charges apply), although the bundled price is discounted and so you actually pay less for taking the two together.
In addition, customers who take the bundle can pay an extra +£6.51 on top to get Line Rental Plus, which includes Unlimited inclusive anytime minutes to 01, 02, 03, 0845 & 0870 numbers and International calls from just 3.06p per minute.
The downside is that anybody stuck on one of BT’s older and predominantly rural 20CN (ADSL Max) platforms will not be able to benefit from the new packages and prices, although these only account for a small percentage of UK premises.
As usual Zen Internet tend not to be the cheapest, but they do have a pretty good reputation and features like Static IP addresses, monthly contracts and UK based support are often worth the extra cost. NOTE: Like most ISPs if you need a new connection then you’ll also have to pay £48 one-off, but migrations remain free.

Zen wanted about £80 more than my current ISP for a fresh setup so I went with my current ISP and now I am migrating to Zen
