Urban fibre optic ISP Hyperoptic, which offers home broadband speeds of up to 1000Mbps across parts of several major UK cities (particularly London), will today reduce its prices for the first 12 month contract term to new customers.
At present the Fibre-to-the-Building (FTTB) provider, which tends to focus on connecting larger apartment blocks (i.e. those with at least 50 units) and some businesses, is available to well over 100,000 premises in parts of London, Cardiff, Bristol, Reading, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield, Birmingham, Glasgow, Newcastle and Nottingham.
The ISPs packages are also priced based on whether or not you take a standalone (broadband-only) or bundle (broadband and phone), with Phone Line Rental typically adding £16 inc. VAT per month to the cost of bundled services.
Otherwise Hyperoptic’s packages also include a free wireless router, free installation (note: standalone users will have to pay a £40 activation), unlimited usage and those who take the phone service will also benefit from free evening and weekend calls.
In terms of what’s changed, Hyperoptic’s top-end 1Gbps (1000Mbps) service typically costs £60 per month when taken standalone and £47 (plus £16 line rental) for a bundle. But once today’s changes go live the same service will cost £50 standalone for 12 months (£60 thereafter) and £30 when bundled with £16 line rental for 12 months (£47 thereafter).

As usual the biggest barrier to most consumers will be the understandable lack of availability, although they are hoping to reach 500,000 premises by 2018. Take note that both the 100Mbps and 1Gbps services offer symmetric (same speed both ways) performance, while the entry-level 20Mbps package has a 1Mbps upload speed.
NOTE: At the time of writing the old prices are still available, although we expect that to change very soon.
