Internet content firm AOL (Huffington Post, Buzzfeed etc.) has entered into a new partnership with broadband provider TalkTalk, which should improve the content available on the ISPs website portal. Not too difficult then.
At this point it’s important not to get confused because TalkTalk already owns the now evaporated AOL Broadband.. brand, but that’s entirely separate from the wider AOL content business. We know this because any time we say “AOL” without saying “Broadband” immediately afterwards then a bunch of PR folk pop around to punch us all in the face politely correct us.
Anyway it turns out that around 2 million people access the latest news, gossip, lifestyle features and TV recommendations on TalkTalk’s online customer portal every month, which we assume is because they haven’t found the BBC’s website yet 😉 . No but seriously, long story short and all, AOL will now be providing the content for TalkTalk’s portal.
David Parslow, TalkTalk’s Head of Marketing, said: “We will offer a selection of the best content on the web from organisations like AOL, Buzzfeed, ITN and Channel 4, as well as relevant tailored content about our products and services in a way that deepens engagement with customers.”
The result seems to be that all of the news and article links on TalkTalk’s portal will now take you off their page and to remote sites, which somehow manage to maintain TalkTalk’s header bar and logos. We’ll let readers be the judge of whether or not this is an improvement.
