The Watford Borough Council in Hertfordshire (England) has teamed-up with network operator intechnologyWiFi to deploy a free public WiFi (wireless Internet) hotspot service to cover local community centres and sheltered housing schemes.
The service, which comes at no cost to local taxpayers, is part of a wider roll-out across the town centre and boasts that it doesn’t apply any time or bandwidth restrictions to users. It also supports the Watford Community Housing Trust’s (WCHT’s) social inclusion mission, which aims to get more people online.

Dorothy Thornhill, Mayor of Watford, said:
“Nearly all of us use the internet nowadays, so it’s wonderful to be extending WiFi to new places in Watford. I’m pleased that residents in sheltered housing are some of the first to benefit – the internet is a great way of accessing public services and keeping in touch with friends and family.”
At present the roll-out is only just in its first phase and more areas will be reached over the coming weeks and months.
