ISP John Lewis Broadband Raises UK Prices and Add Unlimited Fibre

The Internet access division of high street retailer John Lewis has informed customers about a number of big changes, which among other things will see all their standard broadband users being upgraded to “unlimited” usage, the introduction of a new 76Mbps Fibre Extra option and various price changes.

The move is perhaps long overdue as John Lewis’s broadband service, which is based off PlusNet’s product(s), hasn’t really changed much since it first launched all the way back in 2012 and two of their three broadband bundles are packages with capped data usage (today’s market prefers “unlimited“).

At present JLB sell three broadband and phone bundles, all of which include line rental at £13.50 per month and a free wireless router. Otherwise the ‘Standard Broadband’ (up to 17Mbps ADSL) service costs £11 per month with 20GB usage and this rises to £18 for unlimited usage. Meanwhile the ‘up to’ 38Mbps Fibre (FTTC) package costs £25 per month with a 100GB usage allowance.

However ISPreview.co.uk, which was pointed to the changes by one of the ISP’s subscribers, understands that all of this will change from the 10th May 2016.

Changes to the JLB Services – 10th May 2016

Broadband

* Standard will be withdrawn; all customers with Standard will be upgraded to Unlimited.
* Unlimited will be £11.00 per month (currently first 6 months free, then £18.00 per month).
* Fibre will be £22.50 per month (currently first 3 months free, then £25.00 per month). The 100GB usage limit will be removed, providing unlimited usage.
* A new Fibre Extra product will be available for customers, priced at £27.50 per month, providing up to 76Mb download speeds and unlimited usage.
* Any customers who have signed up to the first 6 months free pricing (3 months free for Fibre) before 10th May 2016 will see the new broadband pricing appear on their first bill after their free period has ended.

Phone

* Line rental will increase from £13.50 to £15.50 per month.
* A new Mobile Bolt-on will be available for customers with the Anytime or Anytime and International call plan, providing unlimited calls to UK mobiles for £5 a month.

Call Plans

Currently, the Anytime and International call plan includes 300 anytime minutes to landlines in 20 countries. The list of countries will be increased from 20 to 35 countries.

Changes to call pricing

For any calls not covered by your inclusive call plan, the call setup fee will increase from 12.5p to 15p. Call charges to UK landlines will also increase from 7.5p to 10p (anytime) and evening calls to mobiles will jump by the same amount (note: daytime calls to mobiles remain at 12.5p).
Early Termination Charges
Broadband and phone services are subject to a minimum period of 12 months. The following monthly early termination charges apply for customers choosing to end their broadband and/or phone service within the 12 month minimum period. Please note that early termination charges are not subject to VAT.

Product Name Monthly Early Termination Charge
Unlimited £4.15
