Internet provider Olilo has announced that they’ve added a WireGuard option to the static IP tunnel service they launched over L2TP (Layer 2 Tunnelling Protocol) in May 2026. Routers that can’t run L2TP, starting with Ubiquiti’s UniFi gateways, can now also get a public static IPv4 address and a /48 IPv6 prefix over any UK broadband connection.
The L2TP service enables people or businesses to establish a secure (virtual) “tunnel” to transmit data packets between two points across a public network (this is a protocol that can also be used to help make your own VPN). The WireGuard option sits alongside Olilo’s existing L2TP service and is priced at the same £10 per month.
“Customers keep their existing broadband. Their router opens a WireGuard tunnel to Olilo’s network at ‘wg.olilo.co.uk:51820’, and traffic sent through the tunnel exits from Olilo’s network on the customer’s own static IP. That gives them stable inbound connectivity and no CGNAT, even when the underlying line is CGNAT’d, IPv4-only or has a dynamic IP,” said the announcement.

Olilo added that their service is free for existing Olilo PPPoE and CityFibre broadband customers, who can use it as a failover layer (i.e. bring the tunnel up over a 4G/5G backup and keep the same IP, routing and inbound access if the main line drops).
Aydan Abrahams, Co-Founder of Olilo, said:
“L2TP proved people wanted a static IP without switching ISP. WireGuard means you don’t have to switch router either – if your box speaks WireGuard, you can have a real public IP and IPv6 the same day.”
The move could also be seen as a response to Lodestar Networks own launch of an even cheaper L2TP solution, which can support WireGuard.

Nice one! They did say they were working on it after they did a poll 2 weeks ago so it’s nice to see they actually listened.
It being included for free on existing lines is a nice touch as we all know what line providers are like.
I doubt the move to providing wireguard was in response to Lodestar. The guys at Olilo have suggested for sometime that they would provide it. But wanted to make sure it was robust and matched their already high standards. Not quick half baked solutions in attempt to gain market share. Again cheapest is not always best.
Cheapest isn’t always best, Paul, but we’ve managed to be both so far. 32 customers in 3 days say we’re not doing too badly. Good to see Olilo adding WireGuard as well, competition is good for everyone.
Lodestar respectfully you have not managed to be both as from what I can see people are having geoIP issues. WireGuard also isn’t Olilo’s main business they added it as a failover option.
Interesting.. well worth taking a look.. So its a VPN for your L2 traffic over wg0 interface, which can allow exit traffic through their exit nodes? So, kind of like TOR except based on wireguard tunnel session?
It’s not doing multiple hops to hide your source or anything like that, and you can’t choose your ‘exit node’. Your traffic is just sent over the tunnel and going out on your own Olilo Static IP from whatever connection you want to use, effectively bypassing CGNAT restrictions 🙂
From their Reddit post: –
Right, for those who asked: here you go. Now leave me alone pls
WireGuard is live. Same deal as L2TP, but for routers that don’t speak L2TP. Yes, that means UniFi.
⚠️ This is NOT a VPN. No app, no exit nodes in 40 countries, no “no-logs” marketing, and it won’t unblock US Netflix. It’s a tunnel from your router into our network so you get a real static IP on a line that doesn’t give you one. If you just want privacy on your phone, this isn’t it.
If we see a tunnel being used as a consumer VPN (hopping on from phones and laptops to hide your traffic, dodge geo-blocks, or shared round your mates), we’ll cancel the service. It’s for a router at a site, full stop.
• Static public IPv4 + /48 IPv6
• No CGNAT, inbound just works
• Works on UniFi, OPNsense, pfSense, MikroTik, OpenWrt, GL.iNet, VyOS, plain wg-quick
• £10/month, no setup fee, 30-day rolling
• Soft limit 2.5Gbps per tunnel
• Free if you’re on Olilo PPPoE or CityFibre. Stick it on a 4G/5G backup and keep your IP when the main line drops. Just drop us an email with the full address and name
Endpoint is wg.olilo.co.uk:51820. Send us your public key when you order and we’ll build the config around it. Never send your private key.

Still got L2TP? Nothing changes, it’s not going anywhere.
@Connor The range was previously in Brussels, so some geoIP databases are still catching up. We’re submitting corrections to the providers, and most update within a couple of days. It’s being monitored closely.
The issue is, you didn’t check this and instead rushed it out the door half baked.
I don’t want to burst anyone’s balls but if you are selling a product it needs to be fully tested and not just pushed to market.
Enough said this is Olilo’s launch post so I don’t feel fair to clog it up with another persons product.
