SSE Cut UK Phone and Broadband Prices for Non-Energy Customers

Wednesday, Jan 24th, 2018 (12:01 am) - Score 1,705

Customers of SSE (Southern Electric) should note that the ISP is changing the monthly price of all phone and broadband packages for non-existing SSE energy customers, which means that those without an energy plan will no longer pay a £5 surcharge on their monthly bill for the first 12 months.

On top of that non-existing SSE energy customers now only need to pay a £30 one-off connection fee instead of £50. On the surface this would appear to be good news, although there are a few catches. The biggest catch is that now non-SSE energy customer will sadly pay a £9 per month surcharge on their Phone and Broadband package AFTER the first 12 months but as there’s no fixed contract then you can always switch.

As usual those customers who do have an SSE energy account benefit because they don’t have to pay either the surcharge after 12 months or a connection charge. Existing SSE energy customers can also fix their monthly package price for 3 years, while non-existing SSE energy customers can only do this for 12 months.

Otherwise all of the three related bundles include an unlimited usage allowance (note: the Fair Usage Policy includes Traffic Management, which is fairly vague but will probably hit P2P use), a free wireless router and phone line rental.

Unlimited Broadband
* Download speeds average 11Mbps

PRICE: £21 per month (£30 for non-Energy customers after first 12 months)

Unlimited Fibre
* Download speeds average 35Mbps

PRICE: £24 per month (£33 for non-Energy customers after first 12 months)

Unlimited Fibre Plus
* Download speeds average 63Mbps

PRICE: £30 per month (£39 for non-Energy customers after first 12 months)

The broadband packages offered by SSE do not apply a fixed term contract (i.e. the contract continues on a rolling basis and will continue until terminated by either you or SSE). One thing to note about this is that if you wish to leave within 12 months of your start date, then SSE will send you a pre-paid postage envelope for the return of your router.

Should you not return your router within 30 working days of receiving the pre-paid envelope then an equipment charge of £54 will be added to your account.
