Urban focused “full fibre” broadband ISP Hyperoptic has announced that Charles Davies will be taking on the position of Managing Director for part of the business. Previously Dana Tobak held both the roles of MD (whole business) and she also remains the overall CEO. Charles forms part of a new executive team that reports to Dana.
Charles has previously held senior positions at Stubhub, Formula E and Yahoo!, which has given him 20 years’ worth of experience in building digitally led technology and entertainment brands around the world. As a result this should make him a good fit for helping to invest the £500 million that Hyperoptic now has in order to expand their 1Gbps broadband network to cover 2 million UK homes by the end of 2021 (here).
At present their 1Gbps capable ultrafast full fibre network is said to cover well over 500,000 UK premises in parts of multiple UK “Hyper Cities” (expected to reach 50+ cities and towns by Q1 2019). Hyperoptic’s network typically targets large residential or office buildings in dense urban areas (e.g. Multi-Dwelling Units with at least 50 units), which are very cost effective to upgrade.

Dana Tobak (CBE), CEO of Hyperoptic, said:
“As the leader in bringing Gigabit fibre to the UK, we needed to bring in a proven brand champion to help scale our customer organisation. I look forward to his energy, focus on the customer, and his stellar record of working with high growth organisations to take us to the next level.”
Charles Davies, MD of Hyperoptic, added:
“To lead a new category in connectivity is going to depend on Hyperoptic’s ability to showcase and differentiate its service on a national level. The possibilities that come with mainstream availability of full fibre are endless. The next generation of innovation will be unlocked when IoT devices and next-generation apps can be seamlessly connected to the smart home.”
The Company also recently announced other additions to the senior management team, including: Moray Falconer as MD Infrastructure, Boris Dragovic as Chief Strategy & Transformation Officer (CSTO) and Pascal Koster as Chief Technology & Information Officer (CTIO). They will all report to Dana as CEO.
