Ex-Tele2 Director Joins Gigaclear as Chief Marketing Officer

Tuesday, Jun 25th, 2019 (12:33 pm) - Score 1,160

Rural focused full fibre ISP Gigaclear, which has an ambition to deploy a 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to cover 500,000 UK premises by the end of 2022, has appointed James Lowther to be its new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO).

James has had plenty of experience within the European telecoms and technology sectors, including working for BT and Virgin Media in the United Kingdom. In his prior position he was also the Commercial and Product Director for Broadband and TV at Swedish operator Tele2.

The new CMO said he was “looking forward to helping accelerate the growth and development of the business.”

Gareth Williams, CEO of Gigaclear, said:

“We are very pleased to welcome James on board as Chief Marketing Officer and are confident that his extensive knowledge of the telecoms industry will prove invaluable to Gigaclear as the company rolls out its ultrafast broadband network and strives to provide the best possible customer experience.”

End.

There is absolutely no way Gigaclear can get their network to cover 500,000 properties by the end of 2022 (short of buying another company that already covers 400,000), even with a new Chief Marketing Officer.

      Totally agree

Makes me think of a classic line from the film ‘Battle of Britain’: “Give him a bloody shovel!”

I think for once we all agree.

However, I do hope that they have some degree of success deploying as real people are waiting on them.

Well, Gigaclear have been a major flop in Devon & Somerset. It looks hopeful that Truespeed will beat them to the finish line by a country mile in my village. The whole CDS debacle (yes, I am aware that both CDS and Gigaclear carry some blame) makes me want nothing to do with Gigaclear. Still, I am aware that Truespeed will not be an answer for many so I do hope they can get their act together. I am one of the lucky ones with a quite workable Voneus WIFI based service.

Anyway, do they have a big marketing problem, surely it is digging holes and running fiber where the problem exists….

I wonder what amount of “C-Suite” effort went into recruiting a new marketing director vs ensuring the CDS recovery plan was delivered on time. Which it wasn’t. It’s now going to cover just one of the lots, with the “belief” that the principles in it will work in the other lots. And it’s now due end of July. (all info from the recent Devon CC scrutiny committee meeting).

@MikeP – “… It’s now going to cover just one of the lots …” – which lot?

“… all info from the recent Devon CC scrutiny committee meeting …” – are the minutes available online? Do you have a link?

Very interested, as their pot is sitting on my boundary waiting to be hooked into the duct under my drive but no sign yet of a date to light it all up!

      There’s this:

But as ever it’s depressingly opaque.

I think Gigaclear tried to call me today. Abingdon number. Well, they can “jog on”. We are close to Truespeed now and I have had a gut full of CDS and Gigaclear. Won’t turn down competition but realistically I won’t consider signing up with Gigaclear.
