Virgin Media Adds Another 4,000 FTTP Premises in West Yorkshire UK

Broadband ISP and TV provider Virgin Media has today announced the completion of another rollout of their 500Mbps+ Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, which has just reached 4,000 premises in the historic West Yorkshire market town of Pontefract.

As usual this all forms part of their national Project Lightning network expansion, which aims to add an additional 3-4 million premises to their UK coverage (so far they’ve completed over 1.7 million) via a mix of Hybrid Fibre Coax (HFC) technology and full fibre FTTP (using RFoG – Radio Frequency Over Glass); both methods make use of the DOCSIS standard so as to harness the same consumer hardware (Hub 3.0 router and V6 TV Box etc.).
