Cardiff-based UK ISP Spectrum Internet has appointed a new CEO, Ben Allwright, to help oversee the provider’s planned £200m deployment of a new gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband network (here), which aims to cover 150,000 homes and businesses across South Wales by late 2025.
The project, which is expected to result in the creation of a further 140 jobs (recruitment for this is now commencing), is largely being funded by investment from Infracapital. But such agreements often tend to be followed by changes in a company’s senior executive team. In that sense Ben Allwright has just become Spectrum’s new CEO and he joins the ISP from Teleste, where he ran the Advanced Network Service division.
The new boss is being supported by a refreshed executive team, which includes Sally-Anne Skinner as Chief Revenue Officer (she joins from Sky), Mari Stevens as Chief Marketing Officer (she previously worked for Visit Wales and Welsh Water), Wyn Innes as Chief Finance Officer and Steve Maine as the company’s Non-Executive Chairman (he’s worked for WiSpire, Solaris Mobile and Kingston Communications [KCOM]).
Meanwhile Giles Phelps, founder of Spectrum Internet, will remain but as Chief Strategy Officer.
Ben Allwright said:
“I’m excited to join Spectrum to take up such an important challenge. I’m confident we can offer Welsh residents a far faster, greener and more reliable fibre service than the traditional companies and become Wales’ best homegrown broadband service provider.”
The first build is due to start in the coming months.
