Some 45 schools are set to benefit after business ISP MLL Telecom secured a 7-year contract to supply The Kemnal Academies Trust (TKAT) in the South East of England with “high speed broadband” (gigabit fibre optic connectivity), as well as a centrally managed firewall and content filtering.

The Kemnal Academies Trust is one of the largest Multi-Academy Trusts in the South East of England with 45 Primary, Special and Secondary Academies in East Sussex, Essex, Hampshire, Kent/Bromley/Bexley, Surrey and West Sussex. In tandem with the provision of a new Wide Area Network (WAN) service for these academies, MLL will also be supervising the upgrade of internet connections at all sites to “Gigabit Fibre.”

MLL will harness its Carrier Integration model to pick the best wholesale providers for delivering fibre optic connectivity at each site, including services from BT Wholesale, Vodafone, SSE and Virgin Media (Business). Under this approach TKAT’s 15 secondary schools will have full 1Gbps bandwidth, while their 30 primaries will get 200Mbps (upgradeable to 1 Gbps) and each site will also have a BT Wholesale FTTC circuit for resilience.

The contract follows a competitive tender process under the Crown Commercial Services (CCS) Education Technology Framework Agreement, RM6103 Lot 3 Broadband Services in response to TKAT’s requirement to centralise, standardise and upgrade the delivery of broadband services across the Trust.

Kell Webber, TKAT’s Senior I.T Analyst, said:

“MLL Telecom’s managed Gigabit Fibre Wide Area Network and broadband services ensure TKAT will have a future-proof network to provide our teachers and students with fast, reliable and secure connection to the internet, voice and data services including WiFi, and the ability to access bandwidth-hungry Cloud-based education platforms. These services will provide a high level of e-safety to ensure all users are safeguarded in their digital workspace.”

Gail Harvey, Business Development Director at MLL Telecom, said:

“MLL Telecom is very pleased to have won this tender against the approved suppliers on the CCS Education Technology Framework Agreement Lot 3 Broadband Services. We are looking forward to supporting TKAT’s academies over the next seven years, which will benefit from the responsiveness, resilience and reliability of our professionally managed WAN service.”

End.
