UK ISP Jurassic Fibre (JF), which is currently deploying a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across rural communities in Devon and Somerset, last week announced that they had connected their 1,000th customer (a Honiton-based business called MC2 Audio).
At present JF, which is being supported by a £250m commitment from Fern Trading Limited, has an ambition to cover 350,000 premises across South West England by the end of 2024 (here and here). At the end of last year the provider had nearly completed an initial deployment to 20,000 premises, and they were then expecting to ramp-up further by reaching 50,000 premises “early in the new year” (2021).
Customers typically pay from £25 per month for an unlimited 30Mbps (10Mbps upload) package and that goes up to £95 for their top 950Mbps (200Mbps upload) tier on a short monthly rolling contract. Standard installation is free, although some “non-standard” installs may cost £250. The operator is also offering the first 2 months of service completely free. Meanwhile, business plans offer speeds of up to 10Gbps.
Michael Maltby, CEO and Founder of Jurassic Fibre, said:
“Supporting local businesses and local people is at the heart of everything we do at Jurassic Fibre. It’s great to know that we are providing best-in-class digital connectivity to towns and villages which have previously been left behind when it comes to broadband.”
Separately a couple of residents in the Devon seaside town of Sidmouth have informed ISPreview.co.uk that JF’s engineers were recently been spotted conducting surveys in the area, which perhaps isn’t too surprising since it’s near to their existing patch and is also the home town of the company’s CEO.
