UK ISP Toob, which is deploying a new gigabit broadband network to homes and businesses using Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) technology in the South of England, has today announced that they’ve begun their latest £11m project to deploy across 27,000 premises in Eastleigh and Chandler’s Ford (Hampshire).
So far the operator, which was setup by a group of Vodafone’s former directors and is being supported by an initial investment of £75m (here), has already begun deployments in the Hampshire city of Southampton and town of Aldershot, as well as the Surrey towns of Camberley and Frimley. On top of that they also intend to build across Ash, Green, Guildford, Mytchett, West Byfleet and Woking (here).
The good news is that toob have now confirmed that their next deployment, at a cost of £11m, will be across the connected areas of Eastleigh and Chandler’s Ford in Hampshire. Both locations sit just north of their main £50m deployment to c.100,000 premises in the city of Southampton, which itself is currently set to complete by 2022.
The new build in Eastleigh and Chandler’s Ford is due to get underway imminently, and it’s hoped that the first customers will then be able to go live by the end of 2021. However, toob doesn’t say how long the local rollout will take to complete.
Nick Parbutt, CEO of toob, said:
“This is another great step in bringing the benefits of full-fibre connectivity to the South of England. It is fantastic to see our network working and delivering the speeds and performance that we expect. With the announcement of our next locations of Eastleigh and Chandler’s Ford, I am delighted that we can bring the benefits of hyperspeed broadband to more families, business and communities.”
Customers on the new network currently pay just £25 per month to access toob’s top unlimited 900Mbps+ (average) symmetric speed service on an 18-month minimum contract term (£29 thereafter), which is accompanied by a wireless router, free installation (temporary offer) and unlimited usage. On top of that, they’ve also thrown in a £25 Deliveroo gift card for good measure.
The provider’s main gigabit-capable broadband rival in the area will be Virgin Media, while Glide and Openreach also have a small amount of FTTP.
£25 a month for symmetrical gigabit is seriously aggressive pricing. Even £29 a month ongoing is.
Wonder what their bean counters have worked out to make this viable?
Looks like their deployment costs have come down a bit, which is good.
Wish they would do neighbouring Locks Heath. It will be years before we get FTTP.
At least Locks heath has VM! We don’t even have that down the waterside (Hythe/Marchwood). I asked Toob if they where coming our way and got the usual maybe one day answer.
So annoying they are deploying in Aldershot before Farnborough.
It’s weird they are not yet considering the huge new estate being completed in Aldershot I wonder if they have a lock in with someone else
£400 per property seems like a very reasonable rollout cost. Symmetrical speeds and awesome pricing!
Do we know if Toob are installing their own ducting/microducting or using PIA?
PIA as much as possible.
I have Toob – they use PIA mostly and span between poles to save digging trenches (I count at least 3 pole spans to me)
