Grain Building UK Full Fibre Broadband Network to Fleetwood in Lancashire

Carlisle-based broadband ISP Grain (Grain Connect), which has already built their 2Gbps speed point-to-point full fibre (FTTP) network to cover 300,000 UK premises and is home to 56,000 customers (here), has revealed that their next roll-out location is the coastal Lancashire (England) town of Fleetwood.

At present Fleetwood, which is home to a population of over 26,000, is already widely covered by Openreach’s full fibre network. On top of that ITS Technology have built their own gigabit broadband network across part of the town, but that’s more focused upon business connectivity. Finally, the IX Wireless radio network (Opus Broadband) appears to be deploying in a few areas too. Suffice to say, it seems like a reasonable place for Grain to target.

NOTE: Grain has so far secured funding deals worth somewhere around £500m via Equitix, Albion Capital, Pinnacle Group, German Landesbank Nord L/B, HPS Investment Partners, LLC etc. The operator also secured a key £225m funding boost back in July 2025 (here).

ISPreview took a closer look at the area and noticed that Grain appears to be focusing their roll-out, at least initially, on the streets just behind Fleetwood Hospital. The official announcement states that the first customers in Fleetwood are expected to be connected by early 2027.

Grain currently aspires to cover 600,000 premises with their full fibre network, but they also hold a “longer-term strategy” to exceed 1 million premises passed. New customers of the service typically pay from £19.99 per month on a 24-month term for speeds of 250Mbps (includes a £25 bill credit), which rises to £29.99 for their top 2000Mbps package (includes a £100 bill credit).

The packages include a wireless router, free installation and a promise of no mid-contract price rises.

They have applied for planning permission for a cabinet in Weston-super-Mare. Strangely opposite the one they put in and took out a few years ago.

Wide coverage in the town by Openreach, Virgin Media and part by CityFibre.
