UK ISP YouFibre has today announced that the first customers can now connect to their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network in the West Yorkshire (England) city of Wakefield, which is impressive given that their network partner (Netomnia) only unveiled the build phase in January.
Netomnia hired civil engineering firm MAP Group to support their rollout, which eventually aims to cover 71,000 premises in the city. All of this forms part of their wider aim to reach 1 million UK homes and businesses by the end of 2023 (they’ve so far completed 130,000).
The service itself is typically supplied to consumers via YouFibre, which offers unlimited usage, symmetrical speeds, a Wi-Fi router, free installation and 24/7 UK based support. Customers pay from just £17 per month on an 18-month term (£22 thereafter) for their unlimited 50Mbps package, which rises to £34 if you want their top 900Mbps plan (£50 thereafter).
Ryan Battle, MD of YouFibre, said:
“It’s a privilege to be providing residents in Wakefield with our ultra-affordable and reliable internet, which will enable customers ultrafast speeds for decades to come. Our platform allows multiple people within the same household to stream at once with no disruption. With more people than ever working from home, it’s an important time to offer residents in Wakefield a robust and affordable platform they can rely on.”
However, it’s worth noting that CityFibre, Openreach and Virgin Media also have or will soon have gigabit-capable broadband services in the same city.
