Broadband ISP Virgin Media (VMO2) has announced that customers of their pay TV service(s), specifically Virgin TV 360 or Stream, can now access thousands more TV shows and movies from Pluto TV, directly via their set-top-box and “all at no extra cost“.

Pluto TV is a free, ad-supported, streaming TV (FAST) service that gives customers access to more than 100 live linear channels spanning drama, news, sport, entertainment, kids’ programmes and more, as well as thousands of films and television series on-demand.

For example, among the line-up of live, single series channels are The Drew Barrymore Show and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. In order to access Pluto TV’s range of programming, customers simply need to head to the apps section on Virgin TV or use the voice search function on their remote.

David Bouchier, VMO2’s Chief TV and Entertainment Officer, said: “Virgin TV brings together fantastic programming and popular apps that we know our customers will love. With Pluto TV now available on Virgin TV 360 and Stream, our customers can tune into even more unmissable entertainment.”

Wow, that is so good of them, to allow access to a free streaming service.

I was going to say the same thing. Fire TV sticks have had this for years for free.

Easy to mock, but I know people like my parents who prefer to just use their main TV box as opposed to a separate device like the Fire Stick.

So yes, they probably will appreciate something like this.

@tech3475, I presume it is available on a lot of smart TV sets. It is on mine, but then mine is a Roku one. I can understand that some people want it on one box, but it is just that anyone would think Virgin is doing something great.

      @Ad47uk

I look at it more as ‘oh that’s nice to know/have on it’ as opposed to ‘wow that’s great, thanks VM’.

One thing to remember is that people may have different circumstances, for example, I still have a few non-smart TVs around the house with one relying solely on a Sky Q mini box for all TV/smart functionality. Yes I could get a Fire Stick for it but it’s not worth it considering overall usage.

So they are paying for a free service then? Pluto is actually pretty good and the entire point of it is it’s free but has ads.

Just adding to the comment above also pointing out it’s a ‘FREE’ service.

To be fair VM don’t charge for Stream apart from the one off fee for hardware (which often gets waived).

For cable TV they currently bundle it with 250mbps internet for about the same price as 250mbps internet by itself.

VM treat their TV offering as a bonus for staying with them for broadband if you only want the free to air channels. For many people putting a freeview antenna up is unsightly and costly.

I have not really looked at Pluto until today and I noticed they have Relic hunter on it, but a lot of it seems to be rubbish,

Pluto TV is free and readily available to anyone who has a smart TV, so why is this news

    1. Avatar photo Roger_Gooner says:

Neither of VM’s major Pay TV rivals (Sky and BT TV) offer Pluto TV.
