Hull-based broadband ISP KCOM, which is currently building their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to more of East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire in England, has launched a service to improve online security for their business customers and introduced new Landlord packages to help spread fibre to more tenants.
The operator’s full fibre network currently covers around 300,000 premises, which includes roughly 200,000 across their main patch of Hull. But in September 2022 they announced a second £100m network expansion and upgrade project (here), which aims to extend across another 50,000 premises by around 2025.
However, encouraging Landlords to engage with their plans is often more challenging, which is partly why they’ve opted to launch a new package – “KCOM Landlord” – that will help such sites to deliver FTTP broadband speeds of up to 900Mbps to their tenants (students, home workers etc.).

Each package is designed to serve properties with multiple tenants, and the prices aren’t a million miles from those of their wider consumer products. For example, their entry-level 100Mbps (30Mbps upload) service on a 12-month term costs £35 +vat per month (plus a £50 one-off connection fee), which rises up to £50 per month for their top 900Mbps (180Mbps upload) tier.
Lucy Henn, KCOM’s Senior Product Manager, said (here):
“Our dedicated landlord portfolio offers great speeds, unlimited data and flexible contracts to suit all tenancies. We understand the landlord market in Hull is significant and we’ve been working alongside them for years now. Our latest portfolio is designed around them, and we’ll continue to improve and adapt as the market changes.”
At the same time KCOM’s Business division has also launched a new online security service – “KCOM Secure“, which is designed to help protect their customers networks from malware, viruses and other threats (including automatic updates), it also ensures documents are analysed without affecting your network.
The service, which can be either a managed or unmanaged service, is claimed to contain most of the features of an enterprise security product. But we struggled to find much information about it on their product pages.
