The chances are fairly good that even some avid video gamers might not actually remember that Amazon launched its own cloud gaming service, Luna, which has been an included extra with Prime subscriptions for several years. However, you’ll soon be more aware as they’ve finally started to integrate Luna into their main Prime Video app, albeit with a catch.
Yours truly is normally fairly on-the-ball with streaming related developments in the UK, so even I was a little taken aback earlier this year when one of my friends revealed they had been playing some modern triple AAA video game titles (e.g. ‘Hogwarts Legacy’, ‘EA Sports FC 26’, and ‘Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’) using their Prime subscription via a service I had somehow overlooked called Luna. I quickly realised that I wasn’t the only one to share that surprise and others I knew had never heard of it either.
Part of this stems from the fact that Amazon really hasn’t done much to promote the service and so it’s often sat, as a lonely unfamiliar app, among a sea of icons for other apps that people never use – the sort you’d quickly scroll right past without a second thought. I can’t help but wonder if things might have been different had Amazon given Luna a better and more descriptive name, like Amazon Cloud Gaming, but what do I know.

Despite this, Amazon has been quietly trying to reinvigorate Luna since the end of last year, adding multiplayer features, family party games and additional content (one of Luna’s original problems is that it didn’t initially offer access to all that many games). The latest development is that they’ve started moving Luna inside their main Prime Video service, albeit with a catch.
The reality is that Amazon’s headline announcement from last week – “Prime Video is Getting Games via Amazon Luna” – should probably have ended with “…but only if you have a Fire TV set at home“. In short, Prime members with a Fire TV in the US and UK can now play Luna games inside the Prime Video app, alongside the shows, movies, and sports they already watch.
Jeff Gattis, GM of Gaming at Amazon, said:
“For a lot of people, games have been harder to find than they should be. Bringing Luna inside Prime Video allows Prime members to discover games more naturally, and if they see one they like, they click it and they’re in. That’s less time searching and more time playing great games included with their Prime membership.”
Granted, limiting this to Fire TV is a touch annoying, but then it signals a step in the right direction and appears to be laying the foundation for expanded availability in the future. Amazon itself specifically states: “Today is just the beginning. We will reveal more details on additional devices, countries, and games in the months ahead.”
The above statement hopefully means that Luna’s cloud gaming will soon find its way into additional devices with the Prime Video app already installed. This should make it much more accessible and familiar to the public. But remember, you’ll need a wireless controller or your Smartphone to actually control the games.

I was a few years late finding out about Amazon Luna but it is also worth noting that Amazon provides full, free-to-own forever games via Luna on platforms such as GOG and Epic, to anyone with a Prime subscription, with new games made available every month.
Since I discovered this, I have added 117 games on one platform and about 35 on another to my respective game libraries, all completely free.
FYI, respect to GOG. Love the way they preserve all those good old games.
I think Amazon Luna is removing the “Bring Your Own Library” feature, including third-party game stores (like GOG, EA, and Ubisoft).
That is a completely different feature based on streaming. That is not what I am describing. Try claim games.
Luna is great especially with the Luna gamepad that links via wifi rather than Bluetooth. I have Xbox game pass ultimate and i still would rather use Luna for a lot of games as the graphics are definitely better and a lot less washed out with more reliable gamepad connectivity.
