Telecoms giant Vodafone (VodafoneThree) has just refreshed their “Together” discount, which now also offer new savings to families that combine (bundle) their unlimited Pay Monthly mobile (4G / 5G) plans with one of their fixed line full fibre broadband packages (supplied via Openreach, CommunityFibre or CityFibre). Savings of up to £636 are being promoted.

Bournemouth-based communications, IT and broadband provider 4Com has come in for criticism from some of their UK customers, who have complained about being hit by dramatically higher prices than they originally agreed over the phone. Sadly, business-to-business contracts lack many of the same protections as consumers enjoy, leaving some small firms in a dire situation.

The Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), Liz Kendall, has now joined the chorus of displeasure at O2’s recent decision (here) to increase their annual mid-contract price rises beyond what customers agreed when they signed-up. In response, the minister has directed Ofcom’s CEO, Dame Melanie Dawes, to “look at in-contract price rises again“.

Mobile and internet provider giffgaff, which is owned by Telefónica UK (VMO2), has today informed ISPreview that their recently launched (here) full fibre broadband products for homes – powered by nexfibre and Virgin Media’s networks – have now been made available to people living in the Cathedral City of Chester (Cheshire, England).

Network operator Openreach (BT) has issued a progress update on their ongoing roll-out of a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network in rural parts of Staffordshire and Lancashire (England), which forms part of their Project Gigabit contracts with the government (these entered the construction phase earlier this year).

Mobile and broadband operator Sure has today started the process of switching off their old copper line telecoms (phone and broadband) network on the English Channel Island of Guernsey, which comes as the network operator’s roll-out of a new gigabit-capable full fibre (FTTP) network on the island nears imminent completion.

The telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has opened a new compliance programme to assess whether regulated UK phone providers are meeting their obligations concerning the need to ensure access to emergency calls (e.g. 999 and 112). The move comes after a string of broadband and VoIP providers, including BT, Gigaclear and Vonage, were fined over various related failings (here, here and here).

The current CEO of alternative rural broadband provider Quickline, Sean Royce, has today announced that he’s retiring after nearly 5 years leading the business and is to be replaced by their Chief Transformation Officer, Mark Bowden. At the same time, the provider has promoted Martin Cook to Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

Mobile operator O2 (Virgin Media) has today revealed that over 1 billion scam text messages have been blocked by their network and prevented from reaching customers. The provider is now calling on the government to ensure that their forthcoming Fraud Strategy helps to tackle this by empowering law enforcement with the tools and resources needed to crackdown on the problem.

Homes covered by Quickline’s new gigabit full fibre (FTTP) broadband network, which by the end of 2025 will have covered 200,000 premises across rural parts of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire (up from 65,000 premises in Nov 2023), may like to know that they’ve discounted the price of their top 1Gbps tier from £49 to just £32 per month.

O2 (Virgin Media) has partnered with IONX Networks to become one of the first mobile operators in the UK to successfully integrate a neutral host Small Cell into their live 5G Standalone (SA) core network, which supports the ongoing expansion of their new ultrafast mobile broadband service (currently available to more than 70% of the population).

ISP BT has published the biannual (October 2025) progress update on their delivery of Ofcom’s somewhat unpopular 10Mbps Universal Service Obligation (USO) for broadband. The provider has so far helped to build a USO connection to over 8,553 premises (up from 8,411 in April 2025), with 186 further builds in-progress (down from 349).
