New 1Gbps FTTP Broadband Network Goes Live in Colchester UK

VXFIBER (inc. subsidiary LilaConnect) has today announced that their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network in the large town of Colchester (Essex, England) has started to go live, with some 1,200 homes across Berechurch and Shrub End now able to get it installed.

ISP Aquiss Reduces its UK Business FTTC Prices by 25 Percent

Shropshire-based UK ISP Aquiss has today reduced their Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) based business broadband package prices by up to 25%, which means that prices now start from £21 +vat per month for a 35Mbps (median average speed) broadband-only service excluding line rental, or £35 with a phone line.

Three UK Sees 5G Mobile Broadband Coverage Reach 29 Percent UPDATE

Three UK has today revealed that their new 5G (mobile broadband) network has just gone live in another 110 locations across the United Kingdom (300 in total), which they claim has pushed their “outdoor population coverage” (not geographic) to 29%. The current rollout plan aims to reach 2,500 new sites over the next few years.

Avonline Networks Confirm 5 Year Ogi FTTP Rollout Deal in Wales

Civil engineering firm Avonline Networks has today confirmed what we revealed back in June (here), which is that they have secured a 5-year contract to help UK ISP Ogi (formerly Spectrum Internet) rollout a new gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband service across South East Wales. G.Network to Build FTTP Broadband for 20,000 Westminster Flats

UK ISP G.Network has today announced that they’ve signed a new deal with the Westminster local authority in London, which will see their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network being extended across over 1,800 extra buildings, encompassing nearly 20,000 social housing flats over the next 3 years.

Gov Publish Next Phase of UK Rural Gigabit Broadband Rollout Plan

The UK Government will today publish the next phase (inc. Phase 1a, 1b and 2) of their £5bn Project Gigabit programme, which in this batch aims to spread 1Gbps capable broadband ISP networks to a further 1.85 million rural premises (2.2 million confirmed so far) across 26 counties in England. Gigabit vouchers have also been boosted.

YouFibre Launch 500Mbps Package as Boston Network Goes Live

Broadband ISP YouFibre has this week launched a new 500Mbps package, which will be available to those being connected via Netomnia‘s new UK Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network. In addition, the new network has also just gone live in the Lincolnshire town of Boston, which is part of their local £7.5m project to cover 25,000 premises.

Andrews & Arnold Boost Broadband Allowances and Cut FTTP Price

UK ISP Andrews & Arnold (AAISP) has informed all customers of their broadband service that, from 1st August 2021, they intend to significantly boost their monthly data allowances at no additional cost. On top of that, the extra cost for adding an Openreach based Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) line to your package will fall from £15 to £10 per month.

Judge Blocks Crowdfunded Legal Challenge to UK 5G Rollout

The High Court has blocked a highly questionable crowd-funded legal challenge by the Action Against 5G campaign, which had been attempting to disrupt the rollout of ultrafast 5G (mobile broadband) services over fears that “radio-frequency radiation from masts and wireless devices puts health and life at risk.“

Sky UK Achieves its 100% Renewable Electricity Target

Sky (Sky Broadband) has today published their annual environmental impact report (here), which among other things reveals that they’ve met their target to source 100% renewable electricity across its entire business. The report also covers the progress they’ve made toward their ambition to be Net Zero carbon by 2030.

Ofcom UK Fine BT 42,500 GBP for Inaccurate Broadband USO Data

Ofcom has today fined BT £42,500 after it ruled that the UK telecoms operator had broken their rules by providing “inaccurate information” in response to a statutory information request, which was seeking data about EE’s Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) broadband (4G) service for their 2019 Connected Nations report.

A new Which? survey of more than 3,000 customers from five major UK broadband ISP and TV providers – including BT, Sky Broadband, Virgin Media, TalkTalk and EE – has found that two thirds of respondents experienced at least one problem with their service in the past year, while 30% said the price they pay had increased.

Openreach Restores Services After BT Exchange Fire in Bangor

Some broadband ISP and phone services in parts of Bangor (Gwynedd, North Wales) were disrupted yesterday after a fire broke out in BT’s exchange building at around 5:40pm, which perhaps mercifully sits just down the road from the local fire station and thus the incident was quickly brought under control. Nobody was hurt.
