Starlink’s (SpaceX) global constellation of ultrafast broadband satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) are in the process of introducing new (third-generation) terminal hardware for homes, which promises higher performance (speeds) and more durability for new customers taking their standard plans. Customers who have accounts with both broadband ISP Virgin Media and mobile operator O2 have, since 14th November, begun to receive emails that invite them to create a single online ID to access both accounts for the first time. The move comes a little over two years after the companies completed their merger deal.

Some existing and former customers of TV, phone and broadband provider Virgin Media (VMO2) are complaining that the ISP is continuing to hit them with wrongful Netflix subscription charges, which is despite those impacted having either never taken the service or cancelling it months ago. The problem has gone unresolved for months.

Stratospheric Platforms (SPL) and BT (EE) revealed earlier this year that they were developing a UK trial to harness High-Altitude Platform Station (HAPS) aircraft to help extend 5G (mobile broadband) coverage into remote rural areas (here). SPL now intends to trial similar technology, during 2024, aboard a Britten-Norman Islander aircraft.
