A recent YouGov survey of 2,033 UK adults, which was commissioned by Point Topic and conducted online during November 2022, has revealed that 35.5% of respondents were still unsure as to whether their home broadband ISP connections were based off “full fibre” (FTTP/B/H) technology or not.

Mobile operator Lyca Mobile, which is powered by an MVNO agreement with O2’s (VMO2) national UK network, has today announced that they’re placing a “freeze on prices” for “at least 6-months” in order to help protect their customers from the cost-of-living crisis and to provide a counter to rivals that are hiking their prices.

Good news. UK ISP Sky Broadband has finally returned to selling their top tier 900Mbps (90Mbps upload) “Gigafast” package – based off Openreach’s national FTTP network – to new customers, apparently after carrying out unspecified work to “upgrade and optimise” the service. The package was removed from sale last November 2022.

Network access provider Openreach, which supplies broadband and Ethernet services to ISPs and businesses across the United Kingdom, has begun re-branding their entire fleet of engineering vans and other paraphernalia – seemingly in order to underline their independence from BT and to better reflect their strategy.

Broadband ISP Virgin Media (VMO2) has today informed us that they’ve added the newly launched Sky Kids HD channel (CH 707) to their Kids TV bundle “at no extra cost“. In addition to the channel launch, customers will also gain access to the related On Demand Sky Kids content.

Customers of Sky’s sibling NOW Broadband (NOW TV) sub-brand are starting to receive notifications of this year’s price increases, but unlike their parent operator, they appear to be keeping their broadband and phone line rental prices frozen in 2023. Instead, only call charges are being increased.

Bath-based broadband ISP Truespeed, which is building a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across rural parts of South West England, has appointed a former BT Director – Robert Purdy – to be their new Chief Information Officer (CIO) and support the rapid scale-up of their build.

CityFibre have today confirmed that they aim to complete the expansion of their existing Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based gigabit broadband ISP network in the North Yorkshire (England) city of York, which is currently moving into the Clifton Moor, Fulford, parts of Huntington and City Centre areas, during 2024.

Business broadband ISP Commsworld has signed yet another agreement with Northumberland County Council in England, which is worth £22m and will see them replace the council’s ageing Wide Area Network (WAN) with modern full-fibre infrastructure. Local businesses and homes could also see improved connectivity.

Consumer website Expert Reviews has published the winners of their annual “Best Broadband Awards 2023” event, which has surveyed UK consumers in an effort to identify the best Internet Service Providers (ISP) across a range of categories. Much like last year, the overall winner was named as Plusnet, again.

Broadband ISP Brsk, which has so far built a full fibre network to cover 100,000 UK premises (up from 70,000 in Sept 2022), has today confirmed that they won’t be increasing contract prices for the remainder of 2023. Furthermore, all current in-contract customers won’t have a price increase across their 24-month contracts.

The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has today provisionally approved the merger of two major global satellite communication and broadband operators – Viasat (USA) and Inmarsat (UK), which they previously warned could have resulted in airlines facing “higher prices for on-board wifi” due to the loss of a key competitor.

CityFibre has announced that they’ve started the construction phase of their £17 million project to rollout a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to cover “almost every home and business” in the Leicestershire (England) market town of Loughborough.
