O2 Set for “Major” 5G Standalone Mobile Network Upgrade in Norfolk UK

Mobile operator O2 (Virgin Media) has this morning announced that they’ve begun to switch on their next-generation 5G Standalone (5GSA) mobile broadband network in Norfolk (England) as part of its UK-wide rollout, which is now live in a total of more than 500 locations (70% of the UK’s population or c.49 million people).

Energy and communications provider Telecom Plus, which trades as Utility Warehouse (UW), has just published their latest H1 FY26 Results to the end of September 2025 and revealed that their broadband ISP grew its total UK customer base to 561,086 (up by 176,196 in the year) and their mobile base grew to 698,054 (up by 171,887).

New Survey Claims 50 Percent of Broadband ISPs to Adopt WiFi 7 Within 12 Months

A new survey of 90 global internet providers, which was conducted by Heavy Reading (Omdia), in collaboration with eero (Amazon) and Qualcomm Technologies, claims that more than 50% of ISPs have already deployed or expect to deploy WiFi 7 based service plans within 12 months. Part of this is to support the roll-out of multi-gigabit speed packages, said to be growing at 20.5% a year (CAGR).

The report finds benefits in terms of “business productivity, enhanced personal wellbeing and strengthened resilience for households and communities“.

INCA Oppose Ofcom UK Proposals on Openreach Wholesale Broadband Pricing

The Independent Networks Co-operative Association (INCA), which represents many of the UK’s alternative broadband networks, has today warned Ofcom “not to relinquish statutory price regulation” on Openreach via recently proposed changes (here) to their Wholesale Local Access (WLA) pricing remedies under the 5-yearly Telecoms Access Review 2026 (TAR).

Openreach Remove ADSL and FTTC from Broadband Checker in UK FTTP Areas UPDATE

Some of ISPreview’s readers have spotted that the broadband availability checker on Openreach’s UK site has stopped displaying results for older ADSL and FTTC (VDSL2 / SOGEA) technologies, albeit only in areas that now have access to full fibre (FTTP) lines. This occurs even if the older services aren’t yet on a “stop sell” due to existing switch-off programmes.
