Merseyside-based broadband ISP BeFibre, which sells packages to consumers and businesses via FullFibre Limited’s gigabit speed UK Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, has revealed that they’re aiming to introduce new multi-gigabit speed Wi-Fi 7 routers and extenders by Q2 2025 as part of a new deal with Switzerland-based Heights Telecom (Heights Telecom UK Ltd).

Alternative UK network builder and broadband ISP Quickline, which is rolling out a gigabit full fibre (FTTP) and 5G powered fixed wireless access (FWA) networks across rural and semi-rural parts of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, has adopted ADTRAN’s Mosaic CP and software-defined access hardware to boost their deployment.

The UK Government’s Minister for Telecoms, Sir Chris Bryant, has written a new letter to the bosses of major broadband ISPs that calls on them to help protect vulnerable users during the switchover from analogue (PSTN) to digital (IP) phone solutions by refraining from re-starting non-voluntary migrations and offering battery backup that can last “up to” 8 hours.

A new survey of 250 business leaders from London’s smaller and medium-sized firms, which was conducted by Censuswide and Development Economics for UK broadband ISP G.Network, has claimed that SMEs are missing out on an estimated £28bn in annual revenue due to “slow and unreliable workplace broadband“.

Mobile operator Vodafone UK are launching a new service called ‘Xchange‘, which they say will let customers exchange their phone for a new one every year on a 24-month Phone Plan (or a year early on longer plan lengths), with no early upgrade fees and nothing left to pay on their old Phone Plan. Just remember to send your previous phone back in “good condition“.

Mobile operator Three UK has today done something a bit different by introducing a 5G Outdoor Hub option for their Three Home Broadband service, which as the name indicates is a mobile router that you “self-install” on the outside of your home in order, we presume, to hopefully get a better 5G mobile signal and thus performance.

The Independent Networks Co-operative Association (INCA), which represents many of the UK’s alternative gigabit broadband builders, has today launched a new initiative that aims to “standardise wholesale fibre” networks and thus make it easier for retail and business ISPs to purchase services from operators.

A Silicon Valley company called Airvine has developed a rather unique network bridge that can extend a Local Area Network (LAN) running at multi-Gigabit speeds, seemingly using only WiFi style wireless signals via the 2.4GHz and 6GHz bands, through “up to” 30cm (12″) of solid concrete walls – it can even bend around 90-degree solid concrete corners.

The CEO of Openreach (BT), Clive Selley, has today set out their position with respect to Ofcom’s forthcoming Telecoms Access Review 2026 (TAR), which amongst other things sees the UK operator call for the regulator and Government to push Virgin Media (O2) and others into opening up access to their cable ducts to help reduce the number of broadband poles being built.

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has today published their 2024 Mobile Matters report, which uses Opensignal’s crowdsourced data (collected between October 2023 and March 2024) to benchmark the performance of UK mobile broadband networks by both technology (2G to 5G), nation and operator choice – including Three UK, O2, Vodafone and EE.
