The East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) in England appears to have handed anti-pole campaigners in Hedon a small, if most likely only temporary, victory by suspending MS3‘s deployment of a new 10Gbps capable full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP network in the area over “allegations of unsafe work activity.“

Mobile operator Lyca Mobile, which is still reeling from last month’s cyberattack and related data breach (here), has apparently decided that – instead of keeping their heads down – now is the time to launch a range of new monthly contracts with the promise of no price rises “until at least” 2026.

Customers of Your Co-op Broadband, specifically those who use their email platform, have been informed that the platform is to be closed and migrated to another provider from 6th November 2023. Customers will need to migrate their email address or create a new address before that date to avoid losing their messages. But it comes at a cost.

The BT Group has published their latest H1 FY24 results to September 2023, which reveals that Openreach’s full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP network added a record of 860,000 premises to their coverage (up from 718k last quarter) and now covers 11.85 million premises, with a further 6m where initial build is underway.

A new Opinium survey of 2,000 UK adults, which was commissioned by Uswitch, has today claimed that 85% of broadband ISP and mobile customers view annual price rises as “unfair” and 87% think they should be allowed to leave their provider penalty free if they raise prices mid-contract.

Broadband ISP and mobile giant VMO2 (Virgin Media and O2) has published their Q3 2023 results, which sees their UK full fibre (FTTP) coverage via nexfibre expand to another 250,800 premises (up from 175.5k in Q2) and their fixed broadband base rise to 5,708,100 (up by 40.8k in Q3 vs -15.3k in Q2). VMO2 has also sold a 16.67% stake in Cornerstone for £360m.

UK ISP BT has published their latest biannual (October 2023) update on the progress they’ve made in delivering Ofcom’s flaky 10Mbps Universal Service Obligation (USO) for broadband. The operator has so far built a USO connection to over 7,681 premises (up from 7,000 in Apr 2023), with 185 further builds in progress (down from 800).

Broadband ISP Virgin Media UK (VMO2) and nexfibre have confirmed that an additional 5,000 homes and businesses in the South Yorkshire (England) city of Doncaster have now been reached by their new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP / XGS-PON) network.

Digital Catapult has teamed-up with Ofcom, Cellnex UK and Capgemini to launch its first independent 5G SA (Standalone) outdoor field-testing site – via SONIC Labs – for Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) technology. The technology tested here could eventually make it into commercial mobile networks.

Broadband ISP Alncom has announced that they’ve begun the next phase of expanding their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across their home town of Alnwick, which is now working to cover the Barresdale, Windsor Gardens, Cedar Grove and Fairfields areas (parts of these are already live).

Virgin Media and O2 have reportedly entered “exclusive talks” that could see them selling off a big stake in the UK’s largest mobile tower network to GLIL Infrastructure. The deal is said to value this part of their business at around £2.5bn, with any proceeds helping to fund their full fibre (FTTP) broadband and 5G mobile roll out.

Broadband ISP BT has today announced that they’ll start deploying their Internet Protocol (IP) based home phone service, Digital Voice, across the Greater London area between November and December 2023. This follows previous roll-outs in the East Midlands, Yorkshire and the Humber, Northern Ireland and the North West.
