Broadband ISP Home Telecom has signed a new partnership that will enable them to harness F&W Networks‘ new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, which already covers 335,000 premises across the UK (not all are Ready for Service) and aims to reach 1 million premises by 2025.

Colt Technology Services has confirmed the completion of a new multi-Terabit speed capable Dark Fibre (G.652D/G.657) cable along the Channel Tunnel, which runs between the UK (Folkestone, Kent) and France (Coquelles, Pas-de-Calais) under the English Channel sea.

Hull-based UK broadband ISP KCOM, which is currently extending their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across more of East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire (England), has added the small rural East Yorkshire village of East Cottingwith (population of around 350) to their coverage.

Network access provider Openreach has declined to elaborate on a recently revealed proposal from their CEO, Clive Selley, which confirmed that the UK broadband giant was “exploring whether it’s practical” to deploy public EV chargers next to some of their 90,000 or so FTTC (VDSL2) street cabinets.

Mobile infrastructure firm BAI Communications (BAI), which is in the process of rebranding to Boldyn Networks (here) and has deployed several “neutral host” style 4G and 5G mobile broadband networks in the UK (i.e. mobile operators buy access via wholesale), has announced that they will establish their new global HQ in London.

Good news. After very recently remarking on another story that Starlink’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) based mega constellation of ultrafast broadband satellites still didn’t cover the whole of Shetland in North Scotland, the network coverage has now grown to cover the whole island.

The Government has revealed some new details about their previously announced trial (here) to deliver “high-speed broadband” via Satellite ISP solutions to Shetland. At the same time, they’ve also launched a new Smart Infrastructure Pilots Programme (SIPP) and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Telecoms Diversification with Australia.

Cheeky mobile operator O2 (Virgin Media) recently hired a team of “independent secret shoppers” to visit EE (BT), Vodafone and Three UK stores to see what contracts were available to them, which found that split contracts (i.e. separate contracts for the handset and airtime) are “harder to get hold of than some networks have customers believe.”

Some customers of BT’s consumer products are being invited to trial TNT Sport ahead of the big rebranding under a new joint venture with Warner Bros. Discovery, which is currently scheduled to take place from 18th July. TNT Sports is the new name for BTSport – offering exclusive live TV sport (Premier League, UEFA Leagues etc.).

The Trade Remedies Authority (TRA), which is an arm’s length body of the UK government that exists to tackle unfair import practices and unforeseen surges of imports, has today recommend the introduction of new trade remedies to protect the country’s optical fibre industry from “harm caused by low-priced imports from China“.

Global Wireless Solutions has today published the results of a confusing new study that measured the network performance of operators that have combined their mobile and broadband ISP businesses. Overall, the study found that the fastest download speeds by a combined provider were seen by Virgin Media O2 (138Mbps average).

O2 (VMO2) has today confirmed that they will either build or upgrade a total of 30 masts in Jamie Stone MP’s constituency – Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross – over the “next few months“, which forms part of the £1bn industry-led Shared Rural Network (SRN) project to help boost 4G (mobile broadband) coverage.

Mobile operator EE (BT) has announced that they’ve deployed another 411 small cells (tiny base stations) on UK street furniture and buildings in order to boost the coverage and speed of their 4G based mobile broadband network (total of 611), which they claim allows customers to “take advantage of download speeds of up to 300Mbps.”
