Abingdon-based rural ISP Gigaclear, which has already built their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to cover 380,000 premises, have announced that the operator’s £10m network expansion in Surrey (England) is now starting to reach the villages of Gomshall and Westcott, with Wonersh to follow in 2024.

Customers of Sky UK’s sibling NOW Broadband (NOW TV) sub-brand, which in March 2023 reportedly said that it would keep their broadband and phone prices frozen (here), has now begun notifying customers of an imminent price hike that will be introduced from 5th July 2023 – hiking monthly prices by an extra £3.50.

Ofcom has today published their 2023 UK study of broadband ISP, phone and mobile service quality, call waiting times, complaint levels, faults, repairs, compensation and install times amongst the largest providers. For example, TalkTalk attracted the lowest satisfaction for broadband (78%), while Plusnet secured the highest (89%).

CityFibre has announced that they’ve finally started the construction phase of their £15m project to rollout a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to reach across “nearly every” home and business in the Norfolk seaside town of Great Yarmouth, which was originally due to begin last winter.

The wholesale division of broadband ISP TalkTalk – TT Wholesale Services – has today agreed to a new strategic business-to-business (B2B) partnership with full fibre network builder CityFibre, which will see the internet provider’s wholesale customers (often including rival ISPs) being offered more choice.

Broadband ISP and network builder Brsk has confirmed that their gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network has doubled in size over the last 5 months to 200,000 UK premises. But they’ve today also revealed the next locations that will benefit as they deploy to the next 800,000 premises.

BT Group has today published their latest Q4 FY23 (quarterly) results to March 2023, which saw Openreach’s Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network grow to cover 10.274 million premises (up by 702k in the quarter vs 810k last quarter) and EE increase their 5G Ready customer base to 9.12 million (up from 8.5m).

A new survey of over 6,000 adults in the UK, which was conducted by consumer charity Citizen’s Advice, claims to have uncovered that “up to” 1 million broadband customers “disconnected” their broadband ISP connection over the past year because the cost-of-living crisis left them unable to afford it.

Hammersmith-based F&W Networks has this afternoon announced that their new gigabit-capable full fibre (FTTP) broadband network has grown to cover 335,000 UK premises (up from 250,000 in late Feb 2023), which puts them on course to reach their goal of 1 million premises by 2025.

A new study from Ookla, which operates the popular broadband connection testing service Speedtest.net, has surprised absolutely nobody today by revealing that home WiFi performance continues to lag behind wired Ethernet (LAN) performance in many advanced markets (e.g. Wi-Fi speeds in the UK were just 29.8% of Ethernet in Q1 2023).

The Independent Networks Co-operative Association (INCA) and Point Topic just published their 2023 report into the impact of alternative “full fibre” (FTTP/B) gigabit broadband networks, which reveals that AltNets grew their UK cover by 50.18% in 2022 to top 8.22 million premises (up from 5.46m in 2021). But the rollout slowed.
