UK MAP – Rural and Suburban Areas See Rising Broadband Speeds

Point Topic has published a new map of the United Kingdom, which shows the percentage change in available broadband bandwidth at the Local Authority level during 2013. The data suggests that the populist South East saw a relatively low percentage increase in bandwidth over the year, due to the strength of existing infrastructure, while many traditionally more rural counties reported the biggest increases.

Cumbria UK Still Passing the Buck over BT Fibre Broadband Coverage Data

The Cumbria County Council has once again refused to publish the 7-digit postcode level broadband speed and coverage data for their state-aid supported roll-out of BT’s superfast broadband (FTTC/P) network, which aims to reach 93% of homes and businesses in the region by the end of 2015. This time the buck is passed back to BT on copyright grounds.

Isle of Wight Confirms First BT Fibre Broadband Rollout Areas

Welsh Wireless Broadband ISP Xwavia Secures £1.2m Finance Wales Loan

Powys-based wireless broadband ISP eXwavia Xwavia has, following last month’s report by ISPreview.co.uk (here), confirmed that they’ve secured an investment of £1.2 million from Finance Wales to help make faster Internet connectivity available to more rural parts of Wales in the United Kingdom. The first areas to benefit will be in Conwy.

Wales Audit Office to Review Superfast Cymru Broadband Deployment

The Wales Audit Office (WAO) has confirmed that it intends to conduct an audit of the Superfast Cymru scheme, which aims to make BT’s faster “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) speeds of up to 80Mbps available to 96% of Welsh premises by the end of spring 2016.

BT Based FTTC Broadband Rollout in Shetland Progresses
