BT Tops 7.47m Broadband ISP Customers as FTTC Covers 21m UK Premises

National UK telecoms giant BT has today posted their latest results for Q3-2014 (calendar), which reported slowing retail broadband growth to total 7,473,000 customers (up by +88k versus the +104k added in Q2 and +170k in Q1). The operator also revealed that their superfast capable “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) network could now reach 21 million homes and businesses (premises passed).

BTWholesale’s plan to boost its fibre optic based Ethernet footprint and big business connectivity, which started earlier this year, has now seen several new data centre PoP (Point of Presence) sites go live at TelecityGroup in Joule House (Manchester), Equinix [LDN5] in Slough and a further one in Leeds. BT has today published their latest Q2-2014 (calendar) results and confirmed that its retail broadband base suffered a slowing of growth (+104k in Q2 vs +170k in Q1-2014) to total 7,385,000 customers. The operator has also revealed a new trial of superfast broadband FTTrn technology in London and confirmed that its FTTC network now reaches 20 million UK homes and businesses (premises passed).

BT has today released their latest Q1-2014 (calendar) results, which confirm that their £2.5bn commercial roll-out of superfast capable “fibre broadband” technology (FTTC/P) has now reached its goal ahead of schedule by passing 19 million premises (around 66% of the United Kingdom). Separately, BT’s retail broadband ISP customers topped 7,281,000 (up +170k in the quarter vs +150k during Q4-2013).

O2 and BT Wholesale Sign UK Fixed Line and ICT Services Partnership

Mobile operator O2 UK might have sold off their fixed line Home Broadband and Phone customers to Sky Broadband (BSkyB) last year, yet a new 5-year partnership extension deal signed with BT Wholesale today means that the business side of their service(s) will continue to be expanded via a “fully-integrated suite of ICT services” to include mobile, Ethernet and FTTC “fibre broadband for the very first time“.

The changes represent only a small price difference of a few pence to a few pounds but then the original proposal wasn’t huge either.

BT Group has today released their latest financial results to 30th June 2013 (Q2), which saw the operators retail ISP division increase their fixed line broadband subscribers by +95,000 in the quarter to total 6,799,000 (down from the +136k added in Q1-2013 and +122k in Q4-2012).
