Mobile operator and ISP Vodafone has just introduced a number of discounts to their FTTC (Superfast) and FTTP (Gigafast – Openreach and Cityfibre) based broadband packages, which reduces the monthly price on their superfast plans and offers several months of free service on their gigafast options.

Cityfibre UK has today announced that they’ve commenced build on their £24 million project to deploy a new gigabit broadband capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTH) network across the Berkshire town of Slough, which is being supported by civil engineering firm VolkerSmart Technologies.

Network builder Cityfibre, which has a £4bn ambition to cover 8 million UK premises with their new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network over the next few years, has moved to ramp-up their deployment by handing a key contract to global civil engineering firm Bechtel.

Cityfibre’s FibreNation division, which was previously owned by UK ISP TalkTalk (here), has just completed an interesting new pilot Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) build that saw them deliver gigabit broadband to homes in the rural villages of Hollins Green and Rixton (Warrington). The operator usually only does towns and cities.

Fibre optic network builder Cityfibre UK has today entered into a new partnership with Renfrewshire Council, which will see them invest £40 million to roll-out their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across homes and businesses in the historic towns of Paisley, Renfrew and Johnstone.

Mobile operator Three UK has extended their existing “full fibre” network capacity (backhaul) deal with Cityfibre via a new multi-million-pound contract, which will help to connect an additional 1,300 mobile masts across 59 towns and cities. This will support the operator’s new gigabit capable 5G based mobile broadband network.

Vodafone UK has today revealed a new range of “gigafast broadband” packages that will only be available via Openreach’s new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in Birmingham, Bristol and Liverpool (360,000 premises). In other locations you’ll connect via Cityfibre’s “full fibre” platform.

Cityfibre UK has today revealed the first solid details of their plan to deploy a new “gigabit-capable” Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTH) based broadband ISP network across the towns of Slough (Berkshire) and Swindon (Wiltshire), which will involve a commercial investment of £24m and £40m respectively.

The UK government’s new £900m Getting Building Fund (GBF), which seeks to help create new jobs, skills and infrastructure across England in order to aid the recovery from COVID-19, has announced its allocations to various regions. A few of the projects also include funding for new gigabit broadband and “full fibre” networks.

Cityfibre, which is being supported by ISP partner Vodafone UK, has today confirmed that their £10m roll-out of a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) ultrafast broadband network in the Scottish city of Stirling has become their first completed “Gigabit City” project. But the build is set to see a £2m extension.

New customers of Vodafone UK’s Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) based Gigafast Broadband ISP packages, which are based off Cityfibre’s £4bn roll-out programme, may like to know that the provider will today adopt the same pricing strategy as on their FTTC based “superfast” plans (i.e. £3 discount for existing mobile subscribers).

Mobile and broadband ISP Vodafone UK have published their latest results to the end of June 2020 (financial Q1 FY21), which saw their fixed broadband base grow to total 793,000 customers (up by +42K in the quarter vs +64K in the previous quarter), while their mobile based declined to 17,580,000 (down by -462K).

UK ISP TalkTalk has today published a brief trading update to 30th June 2020 (Q1 FY21 financial), which saw them add (net) another 67,000 customers to their “fibre” (mostly FTTC) broadband base in the quarter (vs 118K in Q1 FY20). We also get an update on their “full fibre” FTTP launch plan for Openreach and Cityfibre products.

Street works to roll-out a new “gigabit-capable” Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) based broadband ISP network have just begun in the West Midland’s city of Wolverhampton. The deployment is being funded by an investment of £50m from Cityfibre, which usually aims to cover around 85%+ of premises in the areas they target.

The city of Aberdeen in Scotland is about to get a second “gigabit-capable” Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network after Openreach (BT) announced that it had finally started to roll-out in the area, which is already home to an existing deployment by rival Cityfibre (Gigafast Broadband).
