Homes and businesses around the villages of Dunton Green and Chipstead in Kent (England) have faced multiple losses of broadband and phone connectivity after criminals repeatedly damaged Openreach’s (BT) local telecoms cables between 18th and 26th May 2017.

One of the major broadband ISPs involved in enforcing a court-ordered block of websites that facilitate Internet piracy (copyright infringement) has revealed that their filters are now preventing access to a total of 3,814 URLs (sites), although this figure doesn’t tell the whole story.

Mobile operator Three UK has revealed that 76,373 more customers than initially reported were affected by last year’s data breach of their database (i.e. users eligible for a phone upgrade), which means that a total of 210,000+ users had their personal data compromised (up from 133,827).

Several whistle-blowers’ claim to have revealed details of a significant scam that operated from “call centres” in two Indian cities and involved “hundreds of staff“, many of which had been “hired to scam customers” of UK based broadband and phone provider TalkTalk.

Last week we reported on the case of four men who had been found guilty of a £160m financing fraud that involved Total Asset Finance (TAF) and H2O Networks Ltd. (here), which was one of the UK’s early FTTH/P network pioneers. The men have now been sentenced to a total of 44 years in jail.

BT’s Westwood Exchange (EMWSTWO), which is located in central Peterborough (Cambridgeshire) and serves 10,000 premises in the city, is suffering on-going disruption after a number of trespassers gained access to the property last Friday evening (3rd Feb 2017) and remain on the site.

After years of waiting the Southwark Crown Court has found four men guilty of a £160 million financing fraud, which is a case that began in 2010/11 (here) after the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) opened an investigation into one of the UK’s early pioneers of alternative fibre optic broadband networks.

A staggering 1 billion accounts belonging to Internet giant Yahoo! have been breached by a second major hack, albeit one that occurred in August 2013. Today BT Retail and other broadband ISPs that have used the firm for their email (e.g. Sky Broadband) are warning customers to change their passwords.

A little too lenient? The Norwich Youth Court has today handed down a Rehabilitation Order to a 17-year-old boy after he admitted to seven charges under the Computer Misuse Act 1990, two of which are in connection with last year’s cyber-attack on TalkTalk. They also took his iPhone away.

Six million customers of mobile operator Three UK could be at risk after the provider admitted that a database of users (those eligible for a phone upgrade) was breached. Three people have already been arrested in connection with the situation, but the operator has done little to inform users.

The Managing Director of consultancy firm Hatton & Berkeley (H&B), Robert Croucher, which became notorious for hounding subscribers of UK ISPs (e.g. Sky Broadband) with letters demanding payment for suspected Internet piracy, has been sent to jail in tears after assaulting a Taxi driver.
