Infracapital-backed network provider Fibrus, which is busy rolling out their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across rural parts of Cumbria (England) and Northern Ireland, has published a limited preview of their latest financial results for 2024 – showing a 58% increase in revenues and a 143% increase in connected customers.

Residents in the rural Cumbria (England) villages of Kirkoswald and Great Salkeld, which previously worked with local ISP B4RN to build a new full fibre (FTTP) broadband network (partly funded by government vouchers), have been left puzzled after Fibrus started building a similar network in the same area under a publicly funded Project Gigabit contract.

A year and a half has now passed since the MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, Tim Farron (Lib Dem), highlighted the connectivity limbo (here) that several villages in Cumbria – including Ormside, Warcop, Hilton, and Murton – had been left in by the Government’s Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) programme. But locals have just been asked to wait a little bit longer.

Alternative broadband ISP Fibrus has today put out a second announcement, which reveals that they’ve just put their new multi-gigabit speed capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network live for 1,100 premises in the Cumbria (England) town of Longtown. The deployment follows similar builds in towns like Workington, Wigton and Ambleside.

Cabling solutions provider ACOME Group today caused a bit of confusion after they seemed to announce that network builder and ISP Fibrus, which is one of their UK partners, had extended their 2Gbps FTTP broadband network to cover 400,000 premises across England and Northern Ireland. But the actual figure is 354,000 (337k RFS).

The first government-funded rural 4G (mobile broadband) mast upgrades for England have today been completed in the market town of Keswick (Cumbria), which forms part of the industry-led £1bn Shared Rural Network (SRN) project with EE (BT), Vodafone, Three UK and O2 (Virgin Media). A further 82 masts in England are also set for upgrades.
